Guide to Work Health Safety Act
This guide provides an overview of the Queensland Work Health and Safety Act 2011 (WHS Act). It is designed to help people understand their health and safety duties and rights in the workplace.
Nationally uniform laws ensure all workers in Australia have the same standard of health and safety protection, regardless of the work they do or where they work. The laws replace existing work health and safety legislation in all states, territories and the Commonwealth from 1 January 2012.
Nationally uniform work health and safety laws means greater certainty for employers (particularly those operating across state borders) and, over time, reduced compliance costs for business.
More consultation between employers, workers, and their representatives, along with clearer responsibilities will make workplaces safer for everyone.
