Common questions
Do I need a SWMS for office, carpet and venue cleaning?
Only if the cleaning is high risk construction work, for example cleaning on a construction site where powered mobile plant is moving, or work where someone could fall more than 2 metres. Routine office, carpet and venue cleaning isn't, so a SWMS isn't mandatory. You still have to manage risks like chemical exposure and working alone, and a SWMS is a practical way to record how. Clients and facilities managers often ask for one.
Does it cover cleaners working alone at night?
Yes. It has an activity for working alone or outside normal hours, covering injury or a medical emergency with nobody present, aggression from an occupant, patron or intruder, being locked in, and areas with no phone coverage.
Can I change it?
