WorkSafe investigates first fatality of 2013

WorkSafe is investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a worker in Somerton yesterday.

The 53-year-old man was found unconscious at a Hume Highway workplace by colleagues and was, after treatment on site, taken to hospital by ambulance. He later died in hospital.

Initial investigations indicate that he may have fallen from the rear of a prime mover cabin and sustained a significant injury to the back of his head.

WorkSafe is investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.

WorkSafe General Manager for Health and Safety Operations, Lisa Sturzenegger, said this was the first workplace fatality for 2013.

"The fact that this happened on the Australia Day public holiday is a tragedy for the family, friends and colleagues and is a timely reminder for all Victorians to continue to exercise vigilance," she said.

Testimonials

Thank you very much!

"I would just like to take the time to say thank you very much for completing the manual for us here at Skywave Communications Pty Ltd and over the weekend for us as well. You have saved me in particular a lot of time, which I would otherwise have spent updating our current and outdated WHS Manual. Thanks again and we look forward to doing business with you again in the near future."
