Common questions
Do I need a SWMS for installing cable and fire equipment?
A SWMS is legally required when the work is high risk construction work, for example where someone could fall more than 2 metres, near energised electrical installations, or where asbestos is likely to be disturbed. Outside those situations a SWMS isn't mandatory, but you still have to manage the risks, and a SWMS is a sound way to record how. Head contractors, clients and prequalification portals often ask for one either way.
Does it cover working on a live fire system?
Yes. It covers the risk of leaving a fire system impaired or partly installed so a real fire isn't detected or suppressed, and unwanted alarms and evacuations from dust, work or testing on a live system.
