Common questions
Do I need a SWMS for operating a concrete truck?
A SWMS is legally required when the job is high risk construction work, and concrete deliveries to construction sites often are, for example work in an area with movement of powered mobile plant, or work next to a road in use. Outside those situations a SWMS isn't mandatory, but you still have to manage the risks, including drum entry, which is confined space work, and a SWMS is a sound way to record how. Builders and head contractors usually ask for one.
Does it cover entering the drum to remove hardened concrete?
Yes. It treats the mixing drum as a confined space, covering asphyxiation, engulfment and entrapment, unexpected drum rotation while someone is inside or reaching in, and silica dust when knocking off residue.
