This Material Hoisting to Roof SOP (Safe Operating Procedure) covers the roof-side work of receiving, landing, unloading and stacking materials raised by a material hoist, brick elevator, crane or conveyor. It sets out edge protection at the landing point, fall-arrest and rescue planning, ground-level exclusion zones, tag lines, communication with the operator, and spreading loads within the roof's safe working load. It's written by WHS specialists, aligned to Australian WHS legislation, and fully editable in Microsoft Word.

Common questions
Does it cover operating the hoist or brick elevator?
No. It covers the roof-side receiving and landing work. Hoist and brick elevator pre-start and operating checks are in the Brick Elevator & Material Hoist Use SOP.
Does it include fall-arrest rescue planning?
Yes. Where a fall-arrest system is used, workers confirm a tested rescue procedure, rescue equipment and trained rescuers are on site before work starts. Relying on emergency services alone isn't accepted.
Is a SWMS also needed?
Yes, where the work is high risk construction work, such as work with a risk of falling more than 2 metres. The SOP sits alongside the site-specific SWMS.
Can I change it?
Yes. It's a Microsoft Word file, so you can add, remove or change any step, check or hazard, and add your own logo and details.
Does it suit my state?
Yes. It's written to the model WHS laws and suits all states and territories, including Victoria under the OHS Act and Regulations.
What if it doesn't suit my work?
You're covered by our 30-day money-back guarantee if it isn't fit for purpose.
