This Metal Roof Sheeting Installation SOP (Safe Operating Procedure) covers laying out, positioning and fixing metal roof sheets once they are on the roof. It sets out fall prevention and rescue checks, marking skylights and fragile surfaces, crawl boards, handling sheets in wind, fixing sheets progressively, controlling tools and offcuts, and keeping clear of overhead powerlines. It's written by WHS specialists, aligned to Australian WHS legislation, and fully editable in Microsoft Word.

Common questions
Does it cover getting sheets up onto the roof?
No. It starts once sheets and fixings are on the roof. Lifting and landing materials is covered by the Material Hoisting to Roof procedure.
Do I need a SWMS for roof sheeting?
Usually, yes. The task typically meets the definition of high risk construction work where there's a risk of falling more than two metres or work near a fragile roof, so a SWMS is needed as well as this SOP.
Does it say what to do in windy weather?
Yes. Workers handle one sheet at a time, keep it low, use a second person for larger sheets, and stop work if wind makes a sheet hard to control.
Can I change it?
Yes. It's a Microsoft Word file, so you can add, remove or change any step, check or hazard, and add your own logo and details.
Does it suit my state?
Yes. It's written to the model WHS laws and suits all states and territories, including Victoria under the OHS Act and Regulations.
What if it doesn't suit my work?
You're covered by our 30-day money-back guarantee if it isn't fit for purpose.
