This Automatic Gate Installation & Testing SOP (Safe Operating Procedure) covers installing, commissioning and safety testing electrically powered sliding and swing gates. It covers isolation with the electrician, fitting end stops, guards and anti-derailment supports, mounting the operator, fitting photo-electric beams and safety edges, setting travel limits, force testing, manual release checks and handover records. It's written by WHS specialists, aligned to Australian WHS legislation, and fully editable in Microsoft Word.

Common questions
Does it cover the electrical connection?
No. The fixed electrical connection must be made by a licensed electrician. The SOP covers the mechanical installation, commissioning and safety testing around that work.
How is the closing force tested?
Using the test object, instrument, test points and acceptance limits specified by the operator manufacturer and the engineering documentation. The SOP says not to judge force by hand, and not to hand over the gate if the test method or equipment isn't available.
Does it cover servicing existing gates?
No. Ongoing maintenance and repair of gates already in service need their own procedure.
Can I change it?
Yes. It's a Microsoft Word file, so you can add, remove or change any step, check or hazard, and add your own logo and details.
Does it suit my state?
Yes. It's written to the model WHS laws and suits all states and territories, including Victoria under the OHS Act and Regulations.
What if it doesn't suit my work?
You're covered by our 30-day money-back guarantee if it isn't fit for purpose.
