This Structural Steel Erection & Bolt-Up SOP (Safe Operating Procedure) sets out how to erect structural steel members and bolt them into a structure safely. It covers rigging steel for lifting, controlling members with tag lines under crane control, aligning holes with drift pins, temporary bracing and minimum bolts before the crane releases the load, permanent bolt-up and torqueing, and working at height on steel or from an EWP. It's written by WHS specialists, aligned to Australian WHS legislation, and fully editable in Microsoft Word.

Common questions
Does it cover crane operation or dogging?
No. Crane operation, dogging and rigging licensing, structural steel welding and scaffold erection are covered by their own procedures.
When can the crane release a steel member?
Only once the member is secured with the minimum number of bolts or approved temporary connections specified for the lift, and any required temporary bracing has been fitted.
Do I need a SWMS as well?
Yes. The pre-operational checks require a SWMS to be in place for the lift and erection sequence before work starts.
Can I change it?
Yes. It's a Microsoft Word file, so you can add, remove or change any step, check or hazard, and add your own logo and details.
Does it suit my state?
Yes. It's written to the model WHS laws and suits all states and territories, including Victoria under the OHS Act and Regulations.
What if it doesn't suit my work?
You're covered by our 30-day money-back guarantee if it isn't fit for purpose.
