This Conveyor Blockage Clearing SOP (Safe Operating Procedure) covers finding and clearing blockages, jams and spillage on belt, roller and screw conveyors, including transfer points, chutes and hoppers. It sets out a six-stage isolation and lockout process, using the right clearing tools instead of hands, keeping clear of pinch points and run-out zones, refitting guards and restarting safely. It's written by WHS specialists, aligned to Australian WHS legislation, and fully editable in Microsoft Word.

Common questions
Can the emergency stop or pull cord be used as isolation?
No. The SOP is clear that an emergency stop or pull cord is not a substitute for isolation. Each worker applies their own lock and tag and tests the isolation before anyone enters the danger zone.
Does it cover entering a hopper or conveyor pit?
No. Where clearing requires entry into a pit, hopper or enclosed chute, workers don't enter until it's assessed and controlled under your confined spaces procedure.
Which conveyor types are included?
It covers belt, roller and screw conveyors, including the transfer points, chutes and hoppers that feed or discharge from them.
Can I change it?
Yes. It's a Microsoft Word file, so you can add, remove or change any step, check or hazard, and add your own logo and details.
Does it suit my state?
Yes. It's written to the model WHS laws and suits all states and territories, including Victoria under the OHS Act and Regulations.
What if it doesn't suit my work?
You're covered by our 30-day money-back guarantee if it isn't fit for purpose.
