This Edge Bander Operation SOP (Safe Operating Procedure) covers setting up and running a powered edge banding machine in a joinery or cabinet making workshop. It covers guard and glue pot checks, feeding panels clear of the in-running nip point, handling long panels, clearing jams only after isolation, managing hot melt adhesive burns, and dust-safe clean-up without compressed air. It's written by WHS specialists, aligned to Australian WHS legislation, and fully editable in Microsoft Word.

Common questions
Should operators wear gloves?
Only close-fitting ones when feeding panels, as loose gloves can be drawn into the nip point. Heat-resistant gloves are used when refilling, cleaning or clearing the glue pot or nozzle.
Can the emergency stop be used to isolate for jams?
No. The SOP requires isolation at the machine or wall isolator with a personal lock and danger tag. The emergency stop and on/off switch aren't isolation points.
Does it cover other woodworking machines?
No. Panel saws, spindle moulders and other machines are covered by their own SOPs.
Can I change it?
Yes. It's a Microsoft Word file, so you can add, remove or change any step, check or hazard, and add your own logo and details.
Does it suit my state?
Yes. It's written to the model WHS laws and suits all states and territories, including Victoria under the OHS Act and Regulations.
What if it doesn't suit my work?
You're covered by our 30-day money-back guarantee if it isn't fit for purpose.
