This Spray Booth & Finishing Operations SOP (Safe Operating Procedure) sets out how to carry out spray finishing safely inside an enclosed, mechanically ventilated spray booth using HVLP, conventional or electrostatic spray guns. It covers checking extraction and filters, controlling solvent vapour and ignition sources, spray technique, isocyanate coatings and respirators, curing and drying, and disposing of solvent-soaked rags and filters safely. It's written by WHS specialists, aligned to Australian WHS legislation, and fully editable in Microsoft Word.

Common questions
Does it cover airless spraying on site?
No. Handheld airless spray units used for open or site-based painting are covered by the Airless Spray Unit Setup and Operation SOP. This one covers spraying inside an enclosed booth.
Does it cover two-pack isocyanate coatings?
Yes. Where two-pack isocyanate or polyurethane coatings are used, the SOP requires an air-supplied respirator and full protective equipment.
What happens if the extraction fan stops?
Spraying stops straight away and the worker leaves the booth. They don't restart spraying or the fan themselves.
Can I change it?
Yes. It's a Microsoft Word file, so you can add, remove or change any step, check or hazard, and add your own logo and details.
Does it suit my state?
Yes. It's written to the model WHS laws and suits all states and territories, including Victoria under the OHS Act and Regulations.
What if it doesn't suit my work?
You're covered by our 30-day money-back guarantee if it isn't fit for purpose.
