This Metal Rolling & Folding SOP (Safe Operating Procedure) covers operating plate and section rollers, press brakes and panbrakes to bend and form metal plate, sheet and sections. It sets out guard and emergency stop checks, setting up rollers and dies, keeping hands clear of nip and closing points, handling heavy plate, and lockout with hydraulic pressure release and beam support before jams or die changes. It's written by WHS specialists, aligned to Australian WHS legislation, and fully editable in Microsoft Word.

Need more than one SOP?
This SOP is also included in the Ultimate Steel & Metal Fabrication SOP Bundle. At $197 for the whole bundle, it works out much cheaper than buying SOPs one at a time.
Common questions
Which machines does it cover?
It covers plate and section rollers, and folding machines including press brakes and panbrakes. Welding, cutting and other fabrication processes need their own SOPs.
Can operators wear gloves on the machine?
No. Gloves of any kind must not be worn where a glove could reach the rollers, workpiece or nip point. Cut-resistant gloves are only for handling sharp stock with the machine isolated.
Is the emergency stop enough to clear a jam?
No. The machine must be isolated at the main isolator, locked out with a personal lock and tag, and tested for zero energy. Hydraulic pressure is released and the beam supported first.
Can I change it?
Yes. It's a Microsoft Word file, so you can add, remove or change any step, check or hazard, and add your own logo and details.
Does it suit my state?
Yes. It's written to the model WHS laws and suits all states and territories, including Victoria under the OHS Act and Regulations.
What if it doesn't suit my work?
You're covered by our 30-day money-back guarantee if it isn't fit for purpose.
