This Parts Washer Operation SOP (Safe Operating Procedure) gives your team a clear method for using a sink-style or cabinet parts washer to degrease and clean engine, machine and component parts with solvent or aqueous cleaning fluid. It covers SDS and ventilation checks, solvent level and condition, the lid and fusible link fire shut-off, cleaning technique, isolating the unit before maintenance or solvent changes, and responding to splashes, vapour exposure or fire. It's written by WHS specialists, aligned to Australian WHS legislation, and fully editable in Microsoft Word.

Common questions
Does it cover aqueous and bioremediating parts washers?
Yes. It covers sink-style and cabinet parts washers using either solvent or aqueous or bioremediating cleaning fluid.
Does it cover ultrasonic or vapour degreasers?
No. Dedicated vapour degreasing and ultrasonic cleaning systems aren't covered, and neither is bulk chemical storage or disposal beyond day-to-day use.
Can workers clean their hands in the parts washer?
No. The SOP prohibits using the parts washer to clean hands or clothing, and prohibits adding fuel, thinners or other chemicals.
Can I change it?
Yes. It's a Microsoft Word file, so you can add, remove or change any step, check or hazard, and add your own logo and details.
Does it suit my state?
Yes. It's written to the model WHS laws and suits all states and territories, including Victoria under the OHS Act and Regulations.
What if it doesn't suit my work?
You're covered by our 30-day money-back guarantee if it isn't fit for purpose.
