This Tyre Fitting & Balancing SOP (Safe Operating Procedure) gives workshop technicians a clear method for demounting, mounting and inflating tyres on a tyre changer and balancing wheels on a wheel balancer. It covers checking the safety cage, airline and rim components, using the bead breaker, inflating inside a restraint to the placard pressure, balancing with the guard closed and locking out both machines. It's written by WHS specialists, aligned to Australian WHS legislation, and fully editable in Microsoft Word.

Common questions
Does it cover raising the vehicle?
No. It starts once the vehicle is safely raised and the wheel removed. Raising, supporting and lowering the vehicle is covered by your vehicle hoist procedure.
What pressure does it say to inflate to?
The vehicle manufacturer's cold pressure from the tyre placard or vehicle manual. The sidewall figure is treated as the tyre's maximum, not the target.
When must the safety cage be used?
Always for multi-piece rims, damaged or mismatched rims, and any tyre that has been run flat or found under-inflated, and the SOP requires every tyre to be restrained before inflation.
Can I change it?
Yes. It's a Microsoft Word file, so you can add, remove or change any step, check or hazard, and add your own logo and details.
Does it suit my state?
Yes. It's written to the model WHS laws and suits all states and territories, including Victoria under the OHS Act and Regulations.
What if it doesn't suit my work?
You're covered by our 30-day money-back guarantee if it isn't fit for purpose.
