Common questions
Do I need a SWMS for traffic control?
Yes, in most cases. Work on, in or next to a road in use is high risk construction work, and so is work in an area with movement of powered mobile plant, so a SWMS is legally required for traffic control on roadworks and civil sites. If the traffic management is genuinely outside construction work, a SWMS isn't mandatory, but you still have to manage the risks. Principal contractors and prequalification portals often ask for one either way.
Does it cover aggressive drivers?
Yes. It covers verbal abuse, threats and assault of traffic controllers by delayed or frustrated drivers, drivers who fail to obey the bat, and training traffic controllers in de-escalating aggressive road users.
