This Chemical Transport & Vehicle Storage SOP (Safe Operating Procedure) shows your team how to carry pesticides and other hazardous chemicals safely in a work ute or van between the workplace, chemical store and job sites. It covers loading and unloading, segregating and restraining containers, keeping chemicals out of the cabin, ventilation, warning signage, carrying the SDS or a manifest, and responding to a leak, spill or crash in transit. It's written by WHS specialists, aligned to Australian WHS legislation, and fully editable in Microsoft Word.

Common questions
Does it cover placarded dangerous goods loads?
No. It covers non-placarded loads only. Where the volume or class of chemicals would need a placarded load or a dangerous goods driver licence, transport must follow the Australian Dangerous Goods Code instead.
Can chemicals be carried in the cab?
No. The SOP requires chemicals and contaminated equipment to stay out of the driver's cabin at all times, separated by a bulkhead, storage box or dedicated compartment.
Can chemicals be left in the vehicle overnight?
No, unless the vehicle is an approved and secured chemical transport vehicle. Otherwise chemicals are unloaded to their designated storage area at the end of the task or shift.
Can I change it?
Yes. It's a Microsoft Word file, so you can add, remove or change any step, check or hazard, and add your own logo and details.
Does it suit my state?
Yes. It's written to the model WHS laws and suits all states and territories, including Victoria under the OHS Act and Regulations.
What if it doesn't suit my work?
You're covered by our 30-day money-back guarantee if it isn't fit for purpose.
