This Ceiling Space Cabling SOP (Safe Operating Procedure) covers accessing ceiling spaces and roof voids to run, install or retrieve audio visual, data or low voltage cabling. It covers hatch and ladder checks, confined space assessment, isolating every supply with a licensed electrician, moving only on load-bearing members, keeping clear of wiring and transformers, heat stress, check-ins and closing up afterwards. It's written by WHS specialists, aligned to Australian WHS legislation, and fully editable in Microsoft Word.

Common questions
Does it cover mains electrical work?
No. Any work on mains wiring must be done by a licensed electrician. This SOP is for audio visual, data and low voltage cabling.
Who de-energises the building before entry?
A licensed electrician. Workers arrange for the installation to be de-energised at the main switch, locked out, tagged and confirmed de-energised, and treat anything still energised, such as solar, as live.
Does it cover floor-level cable runs?
No. Floor-level cable management and trip hazard controls are covered by a separate procedure.
Can I change it?
Yes. It's a Microsoft Word file, so you can add, remove or change any step, check or hazard, and add your own logo and details.
Does it suit my state?
Yes. It's written to the model WHS laws and suits all states and territories, including Victoria under the OHS Act and Regulations.
What if it doesn't suit my work?
You're covered by our 30-day money-back guarantee if it isn't fit for purpose.
