This Reactive Maintenance Call-Out SWMS (Safe Work Method Statement) is pre-filled for attending breakdowns, leaks and faults at unfamiliar sites, often alone and after hours. It covers 21 activities, from taking the call and planning the response to making safe, reporting and emergency response, with the hazards, control measures and risk ratings before and after controls for each. It's written by WHS specialists, aligned to Australian WHS legislation, and fully editable in Microsoft Word.

A SWMS isn't only for construction. Plenty of maintenance businesses use one as the written risk assessment for a task, the same way others use a JSA or Safe Work Procedure.

Common questions
Do I need a SWMS for reactive maintenance call-outs?
Only if the job is high risk construction work, for example a roof repair with a fall risk over 2 metres, work near energised electrical installations, or entering a pit that is a confined space. Plenty of call-outs don't meet that bar, so a SWMS isn't mandatory for them, but you still have to manage risks like working alone and aggression, and a SWMS is a practical way to record how. Clients, property managers and prequalification portals often ask for one.
Does it cover making a job safe instead of finishing it?
Yes. It has a dedicated activity for making safe and deciding not to complete, so workers aren't pressed into finishing a job that should be made safe and left. It also gives every worker the authority to leave a site without asking permission.
Can I change it?
Yes. It's a Microsoft Word file, so you can add, remove or change any hazard, control or rating, and add your own logo and details.
Does it suit my state?
Yes. It's written to the model WHS laws and suits all states and territories, including Victoria under the OHS Act and Regulations.
What if it doesn't suit my work?
You're covered by our 30-day money-back guarantee if it isn't fit for purpose.
