This Fire Door Inspection and Maintenance SWMS (Safe Work Method Statement) is pre-filled and covers inspecting, testing, adjusting and repairing fire doors, smoke doors and fire shutters in occupied buildings. It sets out 25 activities, from the daily pre-start and impairment approvals to return to service, tagging and handover, with the hazards, control measures and risk ratings before and after controls for each. It's written by WHS specialists, aligned to Australian WHS legislation, and fully editable in Microsoft Word.
Who it's for
Fire protection service companies and passive fire technicians
Door hardware and fire door maintenance contractors
Facilities and building maintenance crews
Fire shutter installers and service technicians
A SWMS isn't only for construction. Plenty of fire services and maintenance businesses use one as the written risk assessment for a task, the same way others use a JSA or Safe Work Procedure.

Common questions
Do I need a SWMS for fire door inspection and maintenance?
Only if the work is high risk construction work, for example drilling or planing a door that may have an asbestos core, working from an EWP where someone could fall more than 2 metres, or working near energised hold-open devices and panel wiring. Routine inspection and adjustment outside those situations doesn't need a SWMS by law, but you still have to manage the risks, and a SWMS is a sound way to record how. Building owners, facility managers and prequalification portals often ask for one.
Does it cover asbestos-cored fire doors?
Yes. It covers assessing the doorset for asbestos and lead paint, the fibre release risk when drilling, cutting or planing, and the response to a suspected disturbance, including stopping cross-contamination of occupied areas, tools and vehicles.
Can I change it?
Yes. It's a Microsoft Word file, so you can add, remove or change any hazard, control or rating, and add your own logo and details.
Does it suit my state?
Yes. It's written to the model WHS laws and suits all states and territories, including Victoria under the OHS Act and Regulations.
What if it doesn't suit my work?
You're covered by our 30-day money-back guarantee if it isn't fit for purpose.
