This Fire Hydrant and Booster Testing SWMS (Safe Work Method Statement) is pre-filled and covers routine service, flow testing and pumpset test runs on fire hydrant and booster systems. It covers 31 activities, from confirming the scope and permits to records, handover and emergency response, with the hazards, control measures and risk ratings before and after controls for each. It's written by WHS specialists, aligned to Australian WHS legislation, and fully editable in Microsoft Word.
Who it's for
Fire protection service companies and hydrant testing technicians
Fire pump and water based fire system contractors
Service contractors on commercial and industrial sites
Plumbers and fire services trades maintaining hydrant and booster assemblies
A SWMS isn't only for construction. Plenty of fire services businesses use one as the written risk assessment for a task, the same way others use a JSA or Safe Work Procedure.

Common questions
Do I need a SWMS for fire hydrant and booster testing?
It's only legally required if the work is high risk construction work, for example testing a booster next to a road in use, working from a tank platform where someone could fall more than 2 metres, or entering a pit that is a confined space. Routine testing outside those situations doesn't need a SWMS by law, but you still have to manage the risks, and a SWMS is a sound way to record how. Building owners, facility managers and prequalification portals often ask for one.
Does it cover fire pump test runs?
Yes. It covers diesel and electric pumpset test runs, including entanglement, exhaust and heat in the pump room, noise, diesel starter batteries, and limiting work on the pump controller to a licensed electrician.
Can I change it?
Yes. It's a Microsoft Word file, so you can add, remove or change any hazard, control or rating, and add your own logo and details.
Does it suit my state?
Yes. It's written to the model WHS laws and suits all states and territories, including Victoria under the OHS Act and Regulations.
What if it doesn't suit my work?
You're covered by our 30-day money-back guarantee if it isn't fit for purpose.
