Mobile Crane Pre-Start Checklist
 
A daily pre-start check for slewing and pick and carry mobile cranes, covering wire ropes, the hook block, outriggers and the safety devices before any lift.
 
What's included
Crane details, type, site and last service date
A weekly operator log for Monday to Sunday
Before starting checks: tyres or tracks, outriggers and pads, boom and pins, wire ropes and sheaves, hook block and safety latch, hydraulics, fluids, counterweights, cab, load charts, logbook and lifting gear
After starting checks: gauges and warning lights, rated capacity indicator, anti-two-block device, hoist and hoist brake, luff and telescope, slew and slew brake, outriggers and levelling, and alarms
A faults and tag-out log so a faulty crane is taken out of use until it is repaired
A one-page instruction sheet with step-by-step guidance and tips

At the start of every shift, before the crane is used
When a new operator takes over the crane
After setting up in a new position, or after a fault has been repaired
